Baby Kimono
****************************************
Pattern: One-Piece Baby Kimono (aka Heartbreakingly Cute Baby Kimono)
By: Christina Shiffman in Mason-Dixon Knitting
Yarn: Blue Sky Alpacas Organic Cotton (about 1.2 skeins) - color 82
Needles: U.S. 6
Started: September 7, 2007
Completed: October 8, 2007
I made no modifications to the pattern. I chose to knit in garter stitch and I made the yo instead of the m1. I'm glad I did because the baby revealed herself to be a girl and I think yo's are girl-like. I used some cute cotton ribbon I found at Micheal's for the closure. I just sewed the ribbon on with needle and thread. This sweater is for Taylor Isabelle, the first grandchild of a friend of ours. The yarn is not uniform in diameter and has a homespun look. It is very soft and easy to knit with.
This was my first project knitting in Continental style and I find I like it. I'm still not as fast as I would like but that will just come down to knitting more. I hope.
Oh so cute!

How cute! I switched to continental about a year ago and I really like it but I discovered that when doing fair isle I have to throw. Otherwise I can't get my yarn to carry long enough. I'll keep working on it though.

As sweet as the lucky baby who will be wrapped in it. I found this pattern so pleasant. Modern moms appreciate the global influence and the easy dressing of a kimono.
Happy Thanksgiving.

So sweet! I love Blue Sky Alpaca cotton. It wears pretty well and is soft but sturdy. One of these days, I'll learn continental style. I've heard that once you get the hang of it, you can knit faster.

Wow, weird... I just finished mine - I have not put pix up on my blog yet - I haven't decided whether to use the ribbon for closure or maybe use a couple of buttons???? What do you think? I made it for my neice, Maddox, in a Rozetti Olympia plain wool/acrylic blend... it's lavendar. I'm thinking about doing a larger one matching for my daughter, Taylor Anne. Let me know what you think! I'll post pictures soon hopefully! Em
